Welcome to my "Florida" blog

Being a third generation Florida native, I'm completely enamored with the diverse beauty of this gorgeous peninsula. For most of the year the weather is divine which makes exploring its unlimited nooks and crannies fun and easy.

Wherever I go I appreciate nature and the world around me. Come along with me as I share the places I visit and perhaps a few other amusements I find interesting along the way.

Beach Dreams

It's about this time every year when the air is muggy and thick with humidity that I long for the cooler weather to hurry its arrival.

Sandy shores are calling out to me.
The hot summer months don't keep us away from the beach but the cooler months of the year are preferred for beach going.

We make day trips in the heat of summer instead of weekend or week(s) long stays out of our beach times.

It's so interesting to see the subtle changes that occur on the Gulf shore with each season.

The colors and hues of sunlight, the tides coming and going, the sunsets and sunrises as the days lengthen and shorten again.

Willets can be seen any time of the year scampering along the shoreline.

Foraging for food endlessly it seems...

Who'd have thought the simplest things in life could be so entertaining!

Summer shorebirds flock together ...
... shuffling along, probing the sand for small mollusks or crustaceans.

One never knows what beauties will appear deposited from the sea.

Vegetation along the Gulf endures harsh conditions from all seasons.

It has to be tough and reliable.

Plant life here is subject to winds, salt, sand, drought, humidity, high summer temps and occasional low winter temps.

Diverse and complex, yet so simple and enduring is the magnificence of this beautiful shoreline.

Horizons and skylines and shorelines all converge into one glorious handprint of God's gift to mankind.

His creation.

The vastness of it to be respected and enjoyed.

Today I'm dreaming of those glorious weeks we spent strolling the spring shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico.

** This post was made up of photos I took in May and June.**

this post is like a tempting invitation to "come on over, the water is fine"! something about the relaxing roll of the waves on the shoreline, the wildlife of the seaside, the sand in your toes, the visual feast of the flora and fauna, the beauty of the sky's varied hues and hourly changes as the sun travels across the horizon ... it's all meant to restore one's soul and connnect us again with God's creative imagery. your pics are almost like being there ... but not quite! it really takes one to stop, pick up the beach bags, and step through the camera lens into the reality of the scene. so, the main man and i have plans to do just that this afternoon. thanks for inspiring us!

Wow, those are some spectacular photos. I especially like the one with the where the shells are deposited on the shore (although I imagine I wouldn't want to go barefoot on those). The one with the willet pecking at the crab is really interesting too. It's just so nice to witness these subtleties of mother nature you otherwise would not come across just anywhere.

@gigi: Right on. With pictures like these, it's just too easy to fall in love with Florida. :)
